Akron Police Seek Suspect in Fatal Hit-and-Run Involving Cyclist

AKRON, OH – The Akron Police Department is calling on the public to assist in locating a suspect wanted for aggravated vehicular homicide. The incident, which resulted in the death of 47-year-old Jimmy Fletcher, occurred on February 9 near S. Arlington and Ray Streets.

Responding to the scene around 4:07 p.m., officers found Fletcher unconscious with severe injuries, from which he later succumbed at Summa Health Akron City Hospital. Investigations indicate Fletcher was cycling north on S. Arlington Street when a white sedan, reportedly turning onto Ray Street, struck him and fled.

David Farren, 23, from Akron, has been identified as the driver of the white 2013 Chevy Cruze involved in the accident. The vehicle was located in Ashtabula, Ohio, and returned to Akron for processing. An arrest warrant for Farren was issued on March 8, charging him with aggravated vehicular homicide among other offenses.


Farren is described as a white male, six feet four inches tall, with brown hair, hazel eyes, and a tattoo on his right arm. Authorities urge anyone with information regarding Farren’s whereabouts to contact the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490 or 330-375-2Tip.
