ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — The Atlantic City Police Department celebrated the addition of 30 new police officers, the appointment of two retired officers as Special Law Enforcement Officers, Class III (SLEO III), and the promotion of one officer to sergeant. The ceremony took place at the Atlantic City Convention Center, with Mayor Marty Small Sr. administering the oath of office.

This expansion of the force is funded by a $3,750,000 grant from the Community Oriented Policing Services Hiring Program, aiming to enhance community policing efforts. The grant enables the assignment of new officers to critical roles, including School Resource Officers and Traffic Safety Enforcement Officers.

For the first time, the department has also appointed two retired law enforcement professionals as SLEO III, assigning them as School Resource Officers in public schools across the city. The department and Chief James Sarkos extend their congratulations to all officers and their families, emphasizing the new members’ crucial roles in strengthening community relations and ensuring safety.
