Unconscious Woman Robbed During Carjacking in Newark

NEWARK, NJ — The Newark Police Department is appealing to the public for assistance in identifying two suspects involved in an armed carjacking incident that took place on Monday, March 11, 2024. The alarming event occurred around 1:15 p.m. in the 400 block of 15th Avenue, leaving the community on high alert.

According to police reports, a woman was ambushed from behind by an armed male as she was loading groceries into her car’s trunk. Accompanied by another male suspect, the duo demanded her vehicle. The victim attempted to escape the frightening situation but tragically fell to the ground, losing consciousness. The assailants then accessed her vehicle and stole $300 from her purse before fleeing the scene on foot, heading northbound on South 7th Street.

Local employees from the business the victim had patronized rushed to her aid upon witnessing the incident. The quick response of these individuals provided the victim with immediate assistance, though the suspects managed to evade initial capture.


The Newark Police Department has released descriptions of the suspects in hopes that members of the public can aid in their identification. The first suspect is described as a Hispanic male with a light complexion, last seen wearing a black coat and armed with a black handgun. The second suspect is characterized as a Black male of short stature, dressed entirely in black.

Detectives are diligently working on the case and urge anyone with information regarding the identity or whereabouts of these suspects to come forward.
