New Jersey Cop Rescues Dog from Frozen Lake Using Paddle Board

LAKE HOPATCONG, NJ — A routine day took a heroic turn for Trooper I Michael Betz of the New Jersey State Police when he noticed a small dog stranded on the ice while en route to the Lake Hopatcong substation for administrative duties. Despite efforts to lure the dog to safety, the animal fell through the ice, struggling to stay afloat.

The dog reached a rock formation but remained isolated from dry land. Trooper Betz, equipped with a dry suit and using a paddleboard, successfully rescued the dog from the icy waters. The dog, named Georgy, was later joyfully reunited with its owners.

Patrolman Jason Fuehring of the Jefferson Police Department documented the rescue, capturing a moment of bravery and compassion.
