TRENTON, NJ — A Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate in New Jersey, Alex Zdan, faced arrest in August 2020 on charges of driving under the influence (DUI) and leaving the scene of an accident. The incident, which has only recently been disclosed, involved Zdan, a former TV news reporter, who is now vying for the seat currently held by Sen. Bob Menendez.
Zdan had recently apologized for his actions that day, but the Associated Press published a new report on the details of the matter, which to date, had not yet been published.
According to a police report cited by Politico New Jersey, Zdan was driving his pickup in Hopewell when he veered across the center lane, colliding with another vehicle and causing damage to its mirror and driver’s side. The report further states that Zdan departed from the scene and was later located by officers in a convenience store parking lot.
Upon discovery, Zdan underwent field sobriety tests, which he failed. A subsequent breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.25, significantly exceeding the legal limit. Despite initially denying involvement in any accident, Zdan has expressed remorse for his actions, emphasizing his commitment to transparency and acknowledging the seriousness of his past mistake.
