False Claim of Illegal Migrants in Toms River Leads to Harassment of Motel Employees

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Toms River Police officers reported to the Motel 6 on Route 37 in Toms River after a man who heard a rumor about illegal migrants being dropped off at the business showed up with a camera to film guests and employees.

According to police, since the unsubstantiated Facebook post of immigrants being dropped off by buses, the management has received hundreds of calls from concerned parties.

Some of those calls have been threatening, such as stating that they would show up to confront the management.

Earlier this month, a man identified as Joshua Shelton from Howell arrived in the parking lot. He was videotaping the employees and motel along with harassing the management, according to police, while on the motel property.

When police arrived, Shelton was still on the scene upon officers’ arrival but left after being advised that he was trespassing on the property.

No charges were filed.

The false claim was made on a Facebook page. The claim was later debunked by the Toms River Police Department and Paul Hulse, of Just Believe Inc., whose organization finds housing for those in need.
