Newburgh Home Invader Gets 12 Years in Prison

NEWBURGH, NY — Angel Lahoz, 36, of Newburgh, has been sentenced to twelve years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. The sentencing, announced by Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler, comes after Lahoz was convicted of Burglary in the Second Degree and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree.

The incident, which took place on January 2, 2023, involved Lahoz breaking into the home of a City of Newburgh resident. The homeowner encountered Lahoz, a relative, rummaging through her belongings. During the confrontation, Lahoz brandished a machete and assaulted the victim before being restrained by arriving family members and subsequently arrested by the City of Newburgh Police.

District Attorney Hoovler praised the investigative efforts of the City of Newburgh Police, highlighting the significance of addressing violent home invasions. He expressed hope that the sentence would bring solace to the victims and emphasized the commitment of his office to prosecuting violent crimes and recurrent offenders.
