Haitian Immigrant Charged for Raping Young Girl at Massachusetts Hotel Housing Migrants

ROCKLAND, MA – A disturbing incident at a Massachusetts hotel now serving as a housing facility for asylum seekers has led to the arrest and charging of Cory Alvarez, a 26-year-old Haitian immigrant. The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office confirmed Alvarez is being held without bail after his apprehension by police in Rockland.

The charge stems from a rape and attack on a 15-year-old girl inside one of the hotel rooms last week. Law enforcement responded to a call at the former Comfort Inn hotel on Hingham Street shortly after 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim and promptly transported her to South Shore Hospital for treatment.

Alvarez faced arraignment on Thursday, where he entered a plea of not guilty. He has been ordered to remain in custody without bail until his next court appearance on March 22. This case has drawn attention to the challenges and safety concerns within temporary housing accommodations for asylum seekers.
