WELLSVILLE, NY — In the early hours of March 18, Wellsville Police Department, along with New York State Police, responded to reports of gunfire at a residence in the village. The incident took place at 295 West State Street, the home of 37-year-old William Wojehowski, around 4:52 a.m.

Upon their arrival, law enforcement witnessed a gunshot from inside the residence towards the outside. A perimeter was quickly established around the duplex, and occupants of the adjoining apartment were safely evacuated. Given the uncertainty of the suspect’s location, a drone with thermal imaging from the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office was deployed to confirm the suspect was still inside.

After establishing communication through a PA system, the suspect surrendered without incident at 7:40 a.m. He was then transported to Olean General Hospital for evaluation, with charges pending.
