NEW YORK — Enforcement and Removal Operations in New York City successfully apprehended a 39-year-old Salvadoran citizen previously convicted of murder in aid of racketeering, assault, and driving while intoxicated. The former MS-13 gang member, who unlawfully entered the United States, was arrested outside his Brentwood residence by officers from ERO’s Criminal Prosecutions Unit.

Following his arrest under a criminal arrest warrant for reentry after deportation due to an aggravated felony, the individual was presented before a U.S. magistrate judge. He has been remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, pending further legal action.

ERO New York City Field Office Director Kenneth Genalo highlighted the individual’s history of unlawful entries and serious criminal convictions, emphasizing the commitment to protecting New York City’s communities from such threats.

This arrest follows the individual’s pattern of illegal reentry and criminal behavior, including a conviction for second-degree assault in 2004, murder in aid of racketeering in 2011, and a recent conviction for driving while intoxicated in 2024. The Salvadoran national had been previously removed to El Salvador in 2014, after being ordered removed by an immigration judge.

The recent charge of driving while intoxicated by the Suffolk County Police Department and his subsequent conviction underscore the ongoing risks posed by individuals with a history of felony convictions and illegal reentries. ERO New York City’s actions reflect a continued effort to enforce immigration laws and ensure the safety of local communities.
