Federal Inmate Charged for Threatening Probation Officer

CHICAGO — Glenn Bowden, a 62-year-old former resident of Riverdale, Illinois, faces federal charges for threatening a U.S. Probation officer and obstructing justice. The charges were detailed in an indictment returned by a U.S. District Court in Chicago.

Bowden is accused of mailing a threatening communication, obstructing an official proceeding, and making false statements to the FBI. His arraignment is scheduled for April 4, 2024, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Beth W. Jantz.

While serving a sentence for federal robbery charges, Bowden allegedly sent a letter on May 19, 2023, threatening harm to a U.S. Probation officer who had been involved in his presentence investigation. Bowden had previously been sentenced to over nine years in prison for his role in a robbery.


The indictment also accuses Bowden of attempting to obstruct justice by submitting a letter, falsely claimed to be from his prison chaplain, to advocate for his compassionate release. The chaplain reportedly had no knowledge of this letter.

Furthermore, Bowden is charged with providing false statements to the FBI regarding his involvement in sending the threatening letter and the fraudulent chaplain letter. He denied any knowledge or involvement when questioned by investigators.
