PORTLAND, Maine — Two individuals from the New York City metropolitan area, Winston McLeod and Lance Funderburk, both 30, have been indicted by a federal grand jury on multiple charges related to the burglary of two Maine post offices and the armed robbery of two U.S. Postal Service (USPS) letter carriers. The indictment, issued on March 20, 2024, includes five counts against each defendant for their involvement in two robberies, two burglaries, and a conspiracy.

The indictment and subsequent court records reveal that within a single week in January 2024, McLeod and Funderburk targeted the Paris and North Monmouth post offices, from which they stole an array of items including money order printers, mail, computers, and keys to post office boxes. The spree escalated on January 20, 2024, when the duo committed armed robbery against two USPS letter carriers in Lewiston, using the threat of knife violence to coerce the carriers into surrendering their postal keys.

Each robbery charge carries a potential sentence of up to 25 years in prison, while the burglary and conspiracy charges each carry up to five years, if convicted. Additionally, the men could face up to five years of supervised release after imprisonment and could be fined up to $250,000 for each count on which they are convicted.

The investigation leading to these charges was a collaborative effort involving the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force, and local law enforcement agencies from Rumford, Lewiston, Paris, and Monmouth.
