Clifton Police Report Spike in Overnight Car Luxury Car Thefts

CLIFTON, NJ—The Clifton Police Department has reported a recent surge in nighttime burglaries of occupied homes in the Rosemawr and Montclair Heights areas. The incidents, which have seen an uptick over the last several days, predominantly occur around 4 a.m. Suspects have been forcefully entering homes by prying open basement and first-floor windows while residents sleep.

The primary objective appears to be the theft of keys to specific vehicles, which are then stolen from the properties. Notably, there have been no confrontations between homeowners and the intruders thus far. In response to the increasing threat, the Clifton Police Department has intensified patrols in the affected neighborhoods and is collaborating with other agencies to address what has become a regional problem.

The list of vehicles frequently targeted includes BMW “X” and “M” Series, Mercedes Benz models, Range Rover, Porsche, Dodge Durango SRT, Dodge Hellcat models, Jeep Cherokee Trackhawk or SRT, and Kia and Hyundai vehicles. It is noteworthy that the latter can be stolen without necessitating entry into homes. The police urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately through 9-1-1.

The department also cautions that many suspects may be armed and advises against confronting them under any circumstances.
