Marine Mammal Stranding Center Cares for Injured Grey Seal Pup

Local News Report

On International Seal Day, the Marine Mammal Stranding Center reports caring for 18 seals in their hospital, including a female Grey seal pup admitted on Wednesday (3/20).

The pup was found at 79th Street in Harvey Cedars with multiple injuries to all flippers, including a severe wound on her left rear flipper. Staff began supportive care upon admission, including tube feeding and treatment for her wounds. The seal, weighing 42.2 lbs upon intake, is now resting comfortably and receiving assistance with feeding as she recuperates in Tub 9 of the Quonset Hut.

The center emphasizes the importance of their rescue and rehabilitation efforts, particularly during a busy season with many seals migrating through New Jersey. They express gratitude for support, urging donations to help give injured seals a second chance at life in the wild.
