Tragic Accidental Shooting Claims Life of 13-Year-Old in Nashville Home

NASHVILLE, TN — A devastating incident occurred Saturday night when a 13-year-old girl was fatally shot inside her family’s Edgehill Avenue residence. The girl’s mother has reported to authorities that the shooting was an accidental discharge of a firearm.

The victim has been identified as Dearria Radley. Midtown Hills Precinct officers were dispatched to the scene following a 911 call at 9:58 p.m. and provided immediate aid to Dearria. She was quickly transported to Vanderbilt’s Pediatric Emergency Room, where she succumbed to injuries from a single gunshot wound.

During an interview with detectives at police headquarters, Dearria’s mother explained that the accident happened as she attempted to retrieve her keys from her purse, which also contained an unholstered .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol among other items. The pistol discharged unexpectedly, leading to this tragedy.


As of now, no charges have been filed. The Nashville Police Department’s Youth Services Division is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
