New Jersey Governor Requests Advance Notice from Charter Bus Companies on Migrant Transports

TRENTON, NJ— New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has asked bus companies transporting illegal migrants into the Garden State to give his administration and local authorities prior notice before the deliveries in the future.

Murphy stopped short of saying he would deny bus loads of migrants in his state.

Phil Murphy has requested advance notification from several charter bus companies transporting migrants from Texas and Louisiana to New Jersey.

Since December 31, over 1,800 migrants have arrived in New Jersey on charter buses, with most continuing to New York City. The buses reportedly avoid New York City drop-offs directly due to restrictions imposed by a New York City Mayor’s Executive Order on December 27, which limits drop-off times and locations.

Governor Murphy emphasized the importance of prior notice from the bus companies to ensure the health and safety of the migrants upon their arrival in New Jersey. This notice is crucial for preparing New Jersey officials and coordinating with New York City authorities for the migrants’ subsequent travel.

The Governor’s letter requests that bus companies provide the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management with at least 32 hours notice before the migrants’ expected arrival.

The information requested includes the total number of passengers, a breakdown of passengers by demographic (single adults, families with children, unaccompanied minors), drop-off locations and times in New Jersey, and details of the bus, including its departure city, license plate number, color, and identifiable features.
