QUEENS, NY – Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz has announced the filing of first-degree murder charges against Guy Rivera for the fatal shooting of NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller. The tragic incident occurred in Far Rockaway when officers approached a vehicle with Rivera as a passenger.

Rivera, 34, of Woodside, is accused of fatally shooting Officer Diller and attempting to fire at NYPD Sergeant Sasha Rosen during the encounter. Diller, 31, was shot below his protective vest and later succumbed to his injuries at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.

The charges against Rivera include first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree attempted murder, and weapon possession counts. Rivera could face life imprisonment without parole. The arraignment is scheduled for today or tomorrow.


The incident unfolded on March 25, around 5:40 p.m., leading to a significant investigation by the Queens District Attorney’s office and the 101st Police Precinct. This investigation resulted in the discovery of a defaced 9 mm pistol in the vehicle. Lindy Jones, the driver, has been arraigned on weapon possession charges.
