What You Need to Know When Traveling Through Baltimore in Wake of Bridge Collapse

Local News Report

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Maryland State Police have issued a traffic advisory regarding a significant closure on Interstate 695, impacting both the Outer and Inner Loops in the southeast corridor.

The closure is in effect at exit 1 on the Outer Loop towards MD 173, and at exit 43 on the Inner Loop towards MD 157/Peninsula Expressway. Motorists are advised to anticipate delays and consider alternative routes such as I-95, I-895, or other sections of I-695 to circumvent the closure.

Specifically, vehicles carrying hazardous materials, which are prohibited in tunnels, should navigate via the western section of I-695. This includes vehicles transporting bottled propane gas exceeding 10 pounds per container (up to a maximum of 10 containers), bulk gasoline, explosives, or substantial amounts of radioactive materials.

Additionally, the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel imposes restrictions on vehicles over 13’-6” in height or 96” (8 feet) in width. For the I-95 Ft. McHenry Tunnel, the maximum allowable dimensions are 14’-6” in height and 11’-0” in width. Travelers transporting oversized loads should plan their routes accordingly to comply with these restrictions.
