YONKERS, NY – A high-speed police chase through the streets of Yonkers on the evening of March 14 led to a dramatic crash and an investigation into the police use of force. The incident began when a victim reported his vehicle stolen near McLean Avenue and Van Cortlandt Park Avenue, which was then spotted and pursued by Yonkers Police Department officers.

The suspect’s attempt to evade capture resulted in collisions with several police vehicles, injuries to officers, and significant traffic law violations, culminating in a crash at Warburton Avenue and Glenwood Avenue. The suspect was apprehended using force, triggering an immediate internal review as per department protocol.

The Yonkers Police Internal Affairs Division, after a preliminary review, found that one officer’s use of force deviated from departmental training and values, while the actions of other officers were deemed in line with procedures. The involved officer has been placed on restricted duty pending the outcome of a full investigation.

This incident has been brought to the attention of the Westchester County District Attorney’s Public Integrity Bureau and the Department of Justice by the Yonkers Police Department, which pledges full cooperation in the ongoing inquiry.
