Lakewood Man Faces Vehicular Homicide Charge Following Fatal Crash

LAKEWOOD, NJ — Aryeh Bakst, an 18-year-old resident of Lakewood, has been charged with vehicular homicide after a motor vehicle accident resulted in the death of another Lakewood resident.

On March 3, at about 9:00 AM, Lakewood Township Police Department officers were dispatched to West County Line Road and Laurelwood Avenue following reports of a serious collision. The investigation revealed that a 2023 Tesla driven by Bakst was going west on County Line Road when it collided with a 2013 Toyota Corolla, operated by 82-year-old Jules Brotsky.

Both individuals were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Brotsky was listed in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries on March 26. Bakst was treated and released.

The probe into the crash determined Bakst’s Tesla was speeding at 88.6 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone. On March 7, Bakst received summonses for reckless driving, careless driving, and speeding.

Following Brotsky’s death, Bakst was charged with vehicular homicide on March 27. He surrendered to the authorities at the Lakewood Township Police Headquarters on April 3, in the company of his lawyer, and was released in line with New Jersey Bail Reform policies.
