The New York City Police Department issued a public safety alert after Iran attacked the state of Israel early Sunday morning.
“The NYPD continues to closely monitor recent events in Israel. While there are no credible threats in New York City at this time, we will continue to deploy resources, staff, and worship-intensive locations throughout the city. We will also continue to work hand in hand with our law enforcement partners, houses of worship, and Community leaders to keep New York City safe,” the department said.
Iran Launches Direct Military Attack on Israel, Heightening Regional Tensions
JERUSALEM — Early Sunday, Israel experienced unprecedented military aggression from Iran, involving hundreds of drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles. This marked the first direct attack by Iran on Israeli soil, escalating the longstanding animosity that dates back to Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Air raid sirens and explosions were reported across Israel as the Iranian projectiles targeted the nation. However, the Israeli military, led by spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, reported that the vast majority of these were intercepted outside Israel’s borders, including over ten cruise missiles, further preventing any immediate threats to its territory.
The global response was quick and critical. The United Nations’ chief condemned the assault, voicing concerns over the escalation to a broader regional conflict. Similarly, France warned of a potential military escalation, while Britain labeled the attack as reckless. Germany also issued a stern rebuke, demanding that Iran and its proxies immediately cease such actions.
This significant escalation in military actions by Iran has heightened fears of a potential regionwide war in the Middle East, as international leaders call for restraint and diplomatic engagement to prevent further violence.
