Utica Police Arrest Man for Menacing After Incident Involving a Knife

UTICA, NY – A 23-year-old Utica resident, Ali Yusuf, was arrested and charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon following an incident on April 11th, 2024, in the 200 block of South St.

Utica Police responded to a call regarding a menacing situation. Upon arrival, they discovered an undercover Oneida County Sheriff’s Deputy had already detained the suspect, who had reportedly trespassed in the rear yard of a local residence. When confronted by the homeowner to leave, Yusuf became aggressive and moved the confrontation to the front of the property.

During the altercation, Yusuf allegedly brandished a butterfly-style knife and threatened the victim. The Deputy, witnessing the escalation, intervened, identified himself, and drew his firearm while commanding Yusuf to disarm. Yusuf was taken into custody without further incident.

Yusuf was subsequently transported to the Utica Police Department where he was charged with menacing in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.
