Rockville Teen Arrested for Threatening Mass Violence at Local School

GAITHERSBURG, MD—An 18-year-old high school student, Andrea Ye, also known as Alex Ye, from Rockville, has been charged with threats of mass violence following a detailed investigation by the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) and the FBI Baltimore Field Office. The arrest occurred on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

The investigation began after the FBI alerted MCPD to a 129-page “manifesto” written by Ye, which outlined plans for a school shooting and expressed a desire for notoriety. This prompted a search warrant that uncovered further evidence, including internet searches and documents that supported the threats.

In response, the MCPD Community Engagement Division has worked closely with Montgomery County Public Schools to bolster security, particularly at Wootton High School, which was potentially targeted. Ye is currently detained at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit pending a bond hearing.

A news conference regarding the case is scheduled for Friday, April 19, with further details to be announced in an upcoming media advisory.
