A couple from Pennsylvania claimed a $150,043 prize after purchasing a winning Powerball ticket during a visit to Maryland. The husband jokingly mentioned he bought the ticket and then handed it to his wife as they entered the Lottery Winner’s Circle. Even though Powerball is available in their home state, the York County pair preferred to exploit Maryland’s winner anonymity option, which is lacking in Pennsylvania. They opted to remain unknown while reveling in their Maryland Powerball win.
The husband detailed their playing method, revealing that he acquired 15 Powerball game entries at Street Highs on 4802 Rocks Road in Harford County. While this method reduced their trips across state lines, it was the decision to include Power Play and Double Play options for every drawing that proved lucrative. The couple successfully matched four out of five numbers along with the Powerball number 23 in the March 30 drawing. By adding the 3X Power Play multiplier, their third-tier prize surged to $150,000. Moreover, they received an extra $43 because the number 23 was drawn in multiple other Powerball games and in the March 27 Double Play round.
After discovering their victory immediately following the March 30 draw, the wife, who was awake, checked the results on her phone and was astounded to find their numbers matched. Although her husband was sleeping, the news woke him up with a pleasant surprise. Indicating their plans to utilize the winnings for home improvement projects, the couple expressed their love for gardening.
As for the upcoming Powerball drawing set for Saturday, the estimated annuity stands at $98 million with a cash option of approximately $45.8 million. Furthermore, individuals purchasing a $2 Powerball ticket between now and April 21 will have the chance to win a free $2 Mega Millions ticket through the Lottery’s Jackpot Reset promotion.
