SILVER SPRING, MD — Dennis Hinnant Jr., 29, has been convicted of second-degree murder in the death of his wife, Taresha Pendarvis, and now faces a potential maximum sentence of 40 years. The verdict was delivered this week, following his dramatic confession at a Maryland police station last year.
In February 2023, Hinnant entered the Rockville City police station, visibly distressed, holding his child. He informed the police that a serious incident had occurred at his home but initially withheld detailed information until he was offered a cigarette. Despite his request, police did not provide a cigarette, and he was not under arrest at that time.
Maryland State’s Attorney John McCarthy emphasized the commitment to vigorously prosecuting domestic violence cases. Hinnant’s sentencing is scheduled for July 18, where he could receive the maximum penalty for his crimes. The case has highlighted ongoing efforts to address domestic violence in the community.
