- Out-of-State Teacher Chalks Up $50,000 Scratch-off Prize
SALISBURY, Md. — A Delaware teacher’s rare visit to Salisbury turned into an extraordinary stroke of luck, landing her a $50,000 prize on a Money Rush scratch-off ticket.
The winner, who typically does not purchase lottery tickets, recounted her unexpected fortune on Thursday. "A good friend of mine, whom I haven't seen in years, was passing through Salisbury on the way to the beach," she explained. Arriving early to meet her friend, she decided to refuel her car and went inside the Riverside Market for a drink. "At the register, the Lottery urge hit me," she said.
Guided by a tip from a coworker, she chose the newest scratch-off game available. “A coworker once told me that brand new scratch games are the best to play, that the big winners show up more often,” she said. The clerk pointed her to the $10 Money Rush ticket, a game that had debuted just days earlier, on July 22. Despite the random distribution of winning tickets throughout the game’s run, the Delaware native’s strategy paid off.
The teacher's $50,000-winning ticket was found at Riverside Market, located at 519 Riverside Drive in Salisbury. “I believe you,” she told Lottery officials regarding the randomness of the wins. “But this plan has worked for me, so I’ll stick with it.”
Money Rush still has all nine of its $100,000 top prizes up for grabs, along with 10 more $50,000 second-tier prizes and 29 $10,000 prizes. For those passing through Salisbury, Riverside Market might just be a lucky stop.
