Philadelphia Cops Involved In Another Aggressive Dog Shooting

by Breaking Local News Report

Early Thursday morning, Philadelphia Police Department’s 17th District officers were called to a residence on the 1600 block of South Dover Street at about 4:03 AM due to a dog attack. Upon arrival, they encountered a 67-year-old man trying to separate a tan-colored Pitbull and a small black Pomeranian.

The situation escalated when the Pitbull attacked a sergeant, biting him on the left arm. In response, one officer fired her weapon twice at the Pitbull, and the sergeant also discharged his weapon once, hitting the dog.

Both dogs died at the scene.

The injured sergeant was promptly taken to Presbyterian Hospital, treated for bite wounds and minor abrasions, and subsequently released. Following the incident, both involved officers, a 46-year-old, 20-year veteran, and a 48-year-old sergeant with 16 years of service, were assigned to administrative duties.

This was the third shooting of aggressive and violent dogs in the city in the past few weeks.
