VIRGINIA BEACH, VA—A tragic shooting at a local carnival in Virginia Beach has resulted in the death of a 15-year-old girl and left an 18-year-old male in critical condition. The Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) is actively investigating the incident that unfolded last night in the 300 block of Edwin Drive at at MountTrashmore Park.
The initial 911 call was received at 8:31 PM. Upon arrival, police found two victims with gunshot wounds. Both were quickly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite efforts to save her, the young woman succumbed to her injuries. The male victim remains in critical condition.
According to police reports, the violence began with a fight inside the carnival, which was initially broken up by off-duty deputies from the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office working at the event. However, the altercation resumed later in the parking lot outside the carnival grounds, where at least one individual discharged a firearm.
Police Chief Paul Neudigate expressed his concerns about the incident, stating, “The increase in youth gun violence that we are experiencing in our community is disturbing and reprehensible. It is heartbreaking to continue to see young lives being lost and families torn apart by these senseless acts.”
