Mays Landing, NJ – On Monday, June 17, Lisa Monzo, 59, formerly of Galloway Township, NJ, was convicted of five counts of fourth-degree animal cruelty following a bench trial in Superior Court. The court determined that Monzo failed to provide adequate care for a dog, two cats, and two birds.

On November 4, 2022, officers from the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office and the Galloway Township Police Department discovered the animals in Monzo’s residence. The living conditions were described as “deplorable,” with no access to fresh water, edible food, or clean and habitable environments. The animals were removed from the residence, medically assessed, and placed in rehabilitative and foster care.

Monzo will be sentenced in September.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office expressed gratitude to the officers of the Galloway Township Police Department, the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office, and the Animal Control Agency for their roles in rescuing and rehoming the animals. The office also reminds the public that neglect constitutes animal cruelty.
