A Macomb County resident experienced a dramatic turn of fortune when he won a $795,905 jackpot in the Michigan Lottery’s Fantasy 5 game, just one night after narrowly missing the jackpot by a single number.
The 53-year-old winner, who has opted to remain anonymous, successfully matched the numbers 02, 05, 17, 21, and 30 in the July 27 drawing. He purchased his lucky ticket online at MichiganLottery.com after realizing he had forgotten to buy one in-store on the night of the draw.
Reflecting on his win, the player said, “I always buy Fantasy 5 tickets if the jackpot is over $250,000. After the drawing, I initially thought I had won just $1 based on an email from the Lottery, but then another notification prompted me to log into my account where I saw $795,905 pending. It felt unreal at first, and I thought it was a scam.”
His victory felt particularly sweet following a close call the previous night, where he had matched four out of five numbers, winning $100 and lamenting his near miss. “I was so close!” he recounted. “I was excited to win $100 but bummed that I was one number off a large jackpot prize.
