Maryland State Police investigate fatal pedestrian crash in Anne Arundel County

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred Sunday evening on Solomons Island Road in Anne Arundel County.

The victim, a 32-year-old woman, was struck by an unmarked Maryland State Police vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by Anne Arundel County EMS personnel. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Troopers from the Annapolis Barrack responded to the crash shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29. According to a preliminary investigation, the woman entered the roadway where there was no crosswalk and was struck by a northbound 2016 Ford Explorer, which was driven by a state trooper.

The trooper, who was not injured, immediately rendered first aid to the woman and called for further assistance. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration helped with road closures during the emergency response.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Maryland State Police Crash Team. The findings will be presented to the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office. In addition, Maryland State Police will conduct an administrative review of the incident, as per protocol.
