NEWARK, N.J. — Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect and locating a vehicle involved in an eluding incident that occurred early Tuesday morning, Newark Public Safety Director Emmanuel Miranda, Sr. announced.

At approximately 4:40 a.m. on December 10, police on patrol near Fairmount and Springfield Avenues observed a gray Honda Civic with tinted windows and no front license plate pulling into an Exxon gas station in the 300 block of Springfield Avenue. A check of the car’s rear license plate, P97NUW, revealed it was fictitious.

As the suspect drove away from the gas station, officers attempted to initiate a motor vehicle stop using lights and sirens at the intersection of West Kinney Street and Morris Avenue. The suspect failed to comply, fleeing eastbound on West Kinney Street and then southbound on Irvine Turner Boulevard.

The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to locate the vehicle and the driver.
