WASHINGTON, DC – A 16-year-old boy lost his life early Tuesday morning in a crash at Southern Avenue and Reed Terrace Road SE, involving a driver later charged with DUI, police confirmed.

The collision took place just after 4 a.m. on December 10 at the D.C.-Maryland border. Police say the teen, Areohn Savoy of Upper Marlboro, MD, was driving a Lexus that ran a stop sign, colliding with a Jeep Wrangler entering the intersection.

Emergency crews pulled Savoy and another 16-year-old boy from the Lexus, transporting both to a hospital. Savoy later succumbed to his injuries, while the other teen’s condition remains unknown. The Jeep’s driver and passenger were unharmed.

This incident marks the second fatal crash on Southern Avenue within 24 hours, according to police.
