ELLENDALE, Del. – A single-vehicle crash on Dupont Boulevard claimed the life of a passenger and left the driver seriously injured Wednesday morning, according to Delaware State Police.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:55 a.m. on December 18, when a Honda Accord traveling northbound on Dupont Boulevard near East Robbins Road veered off the east side of the road and struck a tree.
The driver, a 37-year-old woman from Ellendale, was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The front-seat passenger, a 38-year-old man from New Castle, was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are withholding his identity pending family notification.
The crash investigation temporarily closed Dupont Boulevard for about three hours as police worked to clear the scene.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and remind drivers of the importance of seatbelt use for all occupants.
