Top defenders set to compete for Gold

Since its creation in 1957, the Gold Glove has honored the best fielders in baseball, with Rawlings introducing the current “finalist” format in 2011. Ten previous Gold Glove winners appear among this year’s finalists.

“This year’s finalists embody everything our brand stands for: precision, performance, and pride,” said Mike Thompson, Chief Marketing Officer of Rawlings. “Their defensive excellence defines the game and shows why the glove remains baseball’s most essential tool.”

How the winners are chosen

Voting for the Gold Glove Awards combines input from MLB managers and coaches — who cannot vote for their own players — with advanced defensive analytics from the SABR Defensive Index™, which accounts for 25 percent of the final results.

Utility players, added to the award lineup in recent years, are evaluated using a specialized formula developed in collaboration with the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR).

American League highlights

Toronto dominated the American League ballot, with finalists including Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (1B), Alejandro Kirk (C), Ernie Clement (3B/Util), and Andrés Giménez (2B). Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr. and Cleveland’s Steven Kwan return as repeat finalists, while Texas features heavily with stars Corey Seager, Adolis García, and Wyatt Langford.

National League contenders

The Chicago Cubs lead the National League with six finalists, including Matt Shaw (3B), Patrick Bailey (C), Ian Happ (LF), and Pete Crow-Armstrong (CF). Philadelphia’s Bryce Harper is nominated at first base, while Arizona’s Corbin Carroll and San Diego’s Fernando Tatis Jr. highlight the outfield finalists.

Other notables include Masyn Winn (SS, Cardinals) and Ke’Bryan Hayes (3B, Pirates/Reds), both looking to add another Gold Glove to their resumes.

Platinum Glove fan voting follows broadcast

After the televised announcement, fans will be able to vote online for their favorite defender in each league to determine the Rawlings Platinum Glove Award™ winners. Voting opens at 9:30 p.m. ET on Nov. 2 at Rawlings.com and closes Nov. 5 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

The Platinum Glove winners will be honored at the Rawlings Gold Glove Award Ceremony in New York City on Friday, Nov. 7, where baseball’s best defenders will officially take home the sport’s most iconic defensive trophy.
