Wild Party at Virginia Motel 6 Ends in Mass Casualty Overdose Incident, Woman Charged

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — Five people were hospitalized early Sunday after a mass overdose at a party in South Stafford, authorities said.

Deputies and first responders arrived at a residence on Edison Lane at 12:16 a.m. for an unresponsive adult male. While treating the man, four others at the scene began to overdose and required immediate medical attention.

All five individuals were transported to the hospital and are expected to recover, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators determined that a party guest had brought a suspected controlled substance, which several attendees consumed. Anne Pates, 36, was arrested on two counts of possession of a controlled substance and is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
