SMYRNA, DEL. — Delaware State Police are searching for a 33-year-old man accused of a violent home invasion and assault that left an elderly man hospitalized Tuesday night in Smyrna.

At approximately 8:39 p.m. on April 15, troopers were dispatched to a residence on Ivy Ridge Court after receiving a report of an assault during a home invasion. Investigators say Steven Mauthe, of Smyrna, entered the home where he encountered the homeowner and a 76-year-old man, both of whom he knows.

According to police, Mauthe began arguing with the elderly victim before allegedly punching him in the face several times. He fled the residence but returned moments later, attacked the man again with repeated punches, and then fled on foot.

Emergency services transported the injured 76-year-old to a nearby hospital. Authorities confirmed the homeowner was not harmed during the incident. A search of the area by responding troopers failed to locate Mauthe.

Delaware State Police have issued multiple felony charges against Mauthe, though the exact charges have not been publicly detailed. Police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating him.
