FOREST HILL, MD — A routine stop at a local Sunoco station turned into a $50,000 celebration for a Forest Hill woman who struck big on the Maryland Lottery’s new Ice scratch-off ticket.
The retired government worker purchased the winning ticket at the Forest Hill Sunoco located at 2019 Rock Springs Road. The $10 Ice game revealed five matching numbers, each worth $10,000, for a total top-tier prize of $50,000.
Unsure if what she saw was real, she had the ticket scanned by the cashier, who confirmed the win. Moments later, the gas station erupted in applause and congratulations, with the clerk hugging the stunned winner and others in the store joining in the celebration.
The winner said she plans to use the money to support her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and may use part of the prize to travel with her husband, to whom she has been married for several decades.
Ice is a recently launched Maryland Lottery scratch-off offering top prizes of up to $100,000. This win marks the first $50,000 prize claimed. Seven $50,000 prizes and five $100,000 prizes remain unclaimed as of May 2.
