Gunfire erupts outside Waffle House in Dover before suspect flees

Delaware State Police are investigating an early morning incident involving gunfire in the parking lot of a Waffle House in Dover.

Troopers responded around 1:00 a.m. Saturday to the Waffle House located at 4003 South Dupont Highway after receiving reports of shots fired. According to the initial investigation, several individuals were involved in an argument in the parking lot when an unidentified suspect discharged multiple rounds into the air.

Authorities stated that no injuries or property damage were reported following the gunfire. “Everyone in the parking lot, including the suspect, fled in an unknown direction,” the Delaware State Police said in a statement.

As of Saturday afternoon, no arrests have been made. Police have not released a description of the suspect, and no surveillance footage or images are currently available to assist in the investigation.

The incident remains under active investigation by the Troop 3 Criminal Investigations Unit. Detectives are working to determine the identity of the shooter and the circumstances that led to the dispute.

The parking lot shooting occurred in a high-traffic area along South Dupont Highway, which is home to several restaurants and businesses frequented during overnight hours.

There were no indications of whether the individuals involved had prior connections or if the incident was random. Police have not indicated whether additional patrols or security measures will be put in place in the area.
