A $40,000 Mega Millions prize-winning ticket was sold in Hanover, Maryland, following the May 6 drawing, marking the first major win under the game’s new expanded format. The winning ticket was purchased at the Exxon at the Mills, located at 7671 Arundel Mills Boulevard in Anne Arundel County.

The winning numbers for the drawing were 16, 17, 43, 46, and 58, with a Mega Ball of 16. The ticket matched four of the five white balls and the Mega Ball, qualifying for a third-tier prize.

Previously, this combination would have earned a $10,000 prize, but the newly implemented automatic multiplier boosted the payout to $40,000. For the May 6 drawing, the multiplier was 4X.

This is Maryland’s first third-tier Mega Millions winner since the game’s price increase to $5 and the introduction of the automatic multiplier, which can vary between 2X and 10X.
