PHILADELPHIA, PA — A woman was pulled from the Schuylkill River and pronounced dead at the scene Saturday morning, prompting an investigation by Philadelphia authorities.

Police responded to the 4500 block of Kelly Drive in the East Falls section of the city shortly after 10:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a person in the water. When officers and emergency crews arrived, they located and recovered the body of a woman from the river.

Medics at the scene confirmed the woman was deceased.

As of Saturday afternoon, investigators had not released the woman’s identity and did not confirm how long she may have been in the water.

No information was made available regarding how the woman ended up in the river or whether foul play is suspected.

The Philadelphia Police Department and the Medical Examiner’s Office are working to determine the cause and manner of death. An autopsy is expected in the coming days.
