WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Germantown man has died following a hit and run crash involving a stolen vehicle early Sunday in Northwest Washington, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Around 3:30 a.m. on May 11, officers were called to the intersection of 7th Street and New York Avenue NW for a reported collision. Investigators determined that a white 2017 Infiniti QX60, reported stolen, was traveling northbound on 7th Street when it struck a motor-driven cycle at the intersection.

The occupants of the Infiniti fled the scene on foot after the crash. The moped operator, later identified as 24-year-old Jose Carlos Vilchez Bobbio of Germantown, Maryland, was found unconscious and transported to a hospital.

Vilchez Bobbio died on Monday, May 12, after lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful. No arrests have been announced in the case.

The Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit is continuing to investigate and is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
