NEW YORK, NY — The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect wanted in connection with an assault on a uniformed officer in Union Square Park Thursday evening.
According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 8:16 p.m. on May 15, when a 39-year-old NYPD officer was on duty in the park, located within the 13th Precinct. An unidentified individual approached the officer and forcefully pushed a barrier into his face.
The suspect fled the scene immediately after the assault, heading toward an unknown location. No arrests have been made.
Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the officer to a local hospital, where he was treated and listed in stable condition.
Suspect described as wearing all black and ski mask
Police described the suspect as a male with a slim build. He was last seen wearing a black ski mask along with all black clothing.
The NYPD has released surveillance images and is urging anyone with information to come forward. The investigation is ongoing.
