LANHAM, MD — A Lanham resident claimed a $500,000 top prize from the Maryland Lottery after purchasing a winning scratch-off ticket from a College Park liquor store.

The unidentified winner secured the second of five $500,000 top-tier prizes from the $20 Bonus Bingo X20 2nd Edition scratch-off game. He claimed his prize Tuesday at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

“I have a large family. I guess I’ll be helping them out and investing,” the winner said after confirming his win with officials.

The ticket was purchased at Village Pump Liquors, located at 4901 Greenbelt Road. The retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

The Bonus Bingo X20 2nd Edition game, which launched Feb. 10, still has three top prizes of $500,000 remaining, along with five unclaimed $50,000 prizes and 34 prizes at the $10,000 level.

Scratch-off game remains popular with players

Maryland Lottery officials noted that bingo-style scratch-off games like Bonus Bingo X20 continue to draw strong interest from players across the state. Tens of thousands of lower-tier prizes between $20 and $5,000 also remain unclaimed.

The Lottery did not release the winner’s name, consistent with Maryland’s policy allowing winners to remain anonymous.

This is the second $500,000 top prize claimed in the game’s current run.
