Pennsylvania man killed in Delaware crash

A Pennsylvania man died Friday when his vehicle was struck in a Greenwood intersection after failing to stop at a stop sign.

GREENWOOD, Del.Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Friday afternoon in Greenwood, leaving one man dead and three others with minor injuries.

The collision happened around 4:59 p.m. on May 16 at the intersection of Staytonville Road and Shawnee Road. According to investigators, a black Toyota Prius was heading south on Staytonville Road when it failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the path of a blue Nissan Sentra traveling west on Shawnee Road.

The Nissan struck the driver’s side of the Prius. The driver of the Toyota, a 77-year-old man from East Fallowfield, Pennsylvania, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Nissan, a 37-year-old man, along with a 26-year-old female passenger and a 5-year-old boy, all from Bear, Delaware, were also taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The intersection was closed for approximately three hours while police conducted an investigation and cleared the scene.
