New Jersey man arrested in Florida for plot to kill Governor Phil Murphy

FREEPORT, Fla. — A New Jersey fugitive wanted for making terroristic threats against Governor Phil Murphy was arrested Sunday in Walton County, Florida, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

Russ Semeran, 53, was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Task Force after being spotted riding a motorcycle on Phillips Drive in Freeport. Authorities conducted a traffic stop and arrested Semeran without incident.

Semeran was wanted by the New Jersey State Police Counter Terrorism Bureau for alleged threats to kill Governor Murphy. The nature and timing of the threats have not been disclosed by law enforcement.

He was transported to the Walton County Jail, where he is being held pending extradition to New Jersey.

In addition to the motorcycle he was riding, authorities impounded an SUV and RV registered to Semeran. All three vehicles were taken to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.
