LOS GATOS, Calif. — As PBS is facing defunding by the federal government, Sesame Street has found a new home.
Netflix announced Tuesday that it will become the exclusive streaming home for new seasons of Sesame Street and Peppa Pig, expanding its lineup of children’s programming and solidifying its position as a major platform for kids and family entertainment.
Starting later this year, Netflix will stream the 56th season of Sesame Street, featuring a reimagined format and classic segments such as Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck. The season will also introduce new content including Cookie Monster’s Cookie Cart and Abby Cadabby’s Fairy Garden, along with access to 90 hours of past episodes.
“For more than half a century, Sesame Street has been a beloved cornerstone of children’s educational television,” Netflix stated in its announcement. “Now the next chapter for Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, and all their puppet and human friends is coming to Netflix.”
The company also launched The World of Peppa Pig, an interactive digital experience now available exclusively on the platform. The app features puzzles, coloring books, and mini-games based on the popular animated series. In addition, new episodes from Season 7 of Peppa Pig are now streaming on Netflix in the U.S.
Netflix expands kids content with new series and games
Netflix continues to invest in children’s programming, revealing additional upcoming content including new animated series and films such as Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85, Motel Transylvania, Minecraft, Ghostbusters, Dr. Seuss, In Your Dreams, and The Twits.
According to Netflix, children’s content now accounts for approximately 15% of total viewing on the platform. The streaming service also highlighted existing family favorites like Ms. Rachel, Gabby’s Dollhouse, CoComelon Lane, Blippi, and Hot Wheels: Let’s Race, along with original animated features including The Sea Beast and Leo.
Netflix said it aims to provide a safe, personalized viewing experience for children through dedicated profiles. Features include parental controls, PIN-protected profiles, and viewing activity reports. “Netflix makes family time easy and fun with dedicated kids’ profiles made just for them,” the company said.
New games for children will also be added to the platform, all included with membership and free of ads or in-app purchases.
