FAR ROCKAWAY, N.Y. — A 42-year-old man was killed and another man injured in a shooting early Thursday near New Haven Avenue and Beach 19th Street, police said.
Officers responded to a 911 call reporting gunfire at approximately 12:20 a.m. and found two men with gunshot wounds. The 42-year-old had sustained multiple gunshots to the torso, while a 36-year-old man was shot in the back, according to the NYPD.
Emergency medical personnel transported both victims to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. The older victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. The second man remains hospitalized in stable condition.
Police have not released the identity of the deceased pending family notification. No arrests have been made.
“The investigation remains ongoing,” authorities said.
Police seek leads as motive remains unclear
The shooting occurred within the 101st Precinct, which covers the Far Rockaway area of Queens. Officials have not provided information on a possible motive or suspect.
As of Thursday evening, no weapon had been recovered and no suspect description had been released.
Detectives are canvassing the area for witnesses and surveillance footage. Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward.
The incident adds to a string of recent overnight shootings in Queens neighborhoods in recent weeks, though police have not confirmed whether this case is connected to any others.
