Woman claims $50K Maryland Lottery prize after parking lot scratch

LANHAM, Md. — A Prince George’s County woman claimed a $50,000 top prize on a $5 Big Money scratch-off ticket after stopping for gas in Lanham, according to the Maryland Lottery.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Shell station located at 8555 Martin Luther King Jr. Highway. The woman, who identified herself only as Candy, bought the ticket while in line and scratched it in her car before having it scanned at another store for confirmation.

The scan confirmed the win, making Candy one of the latest top-prize winners in the Big Money scratch-off game.

The $5 Big Money ticket is part of a lineup of Maryland Lottery instant games offering a range of cash prizes. Top-tier winners like this one are eligible for claims at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
