TOMS RIVER, N.J. — A 37-year-old Mays Landing woman admitted in court Friday to stealing nearly $147,000 and obstructing justice in connection with her role as a lifestyle director at a senior living community in Ocean Township, prosecutors said.
Alicia Campbell pleaded guilty before Judge Kenneth T. Palmer to theft and obstruction of justice for using association funds from the Greenbriar Oceanaire Community & Golf Course to pay for personal purchases between January 2019 and January 2022. Prosecutors said she also sent money to third parties via Venmo, then had those funds returned to her personal accounts.
In 2024, Campbell tried to delay court proceedings by submitting forged documents claiming her minor child was undergoing leukemia treatment in Texas. Prosecutors later discovered the records were fabricated and the hospital had no record of Campbell or her child.
She was initially charged with theft, financial facilitation, forgery, falsifying records, and related offenses in March 2023. Additional charges followed in October 2024 after investigators confirmed the treatment letters were faked.
Sentencing set for September
At sentencing on September 5, prosecutors will ask for six years in state prison for the theft charge and 18 months for obstruction, to run concurrently. Campbell must also repay approximately $147,000 in restitution to the community association.
Senior Assistant Prosecutor Alyssa Mandara and Assistant Prosecutor Taylor Toscano are prosecuting the case with assistance from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Economic Crime Squad and the Ocean Township Police Department.
Campbell was released under bail reform after her October 2024 arrest.
